If you're looking for a sweet-as-southern-iced-tea little girl, Sadie is your gal, and she's as cute as a button besides. She's just learning to trust after spending her first seven years of life in a puppy-mill. Sadie will not (yet) jump into your lap for a snuggle, but she will sit on your lap peacefully, for ear and chest scratches if you pick her up.
Sadie will need an owner with lots of love and patience, and must have another small dog in the household to show her the ropes.
She watches the other dogs in her foster home for clues on how to behave. She chooses another dog in the house to become her BFF and follows that dog to learn what is safe and acceptable.
She has also learned to use two doggy-doors to access the yard and she figured them out in just two days! She loves being "independent" and free to go in and out. After seven years in a cage, we don't blame her. It's obvious she's smart as well as sweet.
Sadie watches TV and is very discerning about which programs she finds worthy. Animal Planet has her standing on her back legs in front of the TV so she can see better. At least one movie did not meet with her approval and she barked at it often. There were some "bad guys" in the movie, so she had her reasons. ;o)
Sadie's wish list includes:
- At least one family member who is home nearly all the time
- Another small dog in the household (required)
- A fenced yard (required)
- A doggy-door or lots of walks
- Someone with lots of patience
Because of her fear issues, Sadie will need a home without small children. We don't know about how she'll handle cats as there are none in her foster home, but she met a couple at the vet's office and seemed uninterested.
Sadie becomes more settled with each passing day, but may never enjoy being picked up. She has given her foster mom tiny, sweet kisses though, so you never know!
Sadie is being fostered in FL.
A donation will be requested to adopt this dog. The recommended donation amount will be based on the dog's age, and medical and behavioral issues, if any. A completed application is required if you are interested in adoption. Thank you for considering a rescue dog!
Sadie's favorite TV shows are on Animal Planet!
Here's a video of Sadie "talking" about her dinner.
UPDATE: After only two months out of the mill, our Sadie girl has made remarkable progress! Here's a new video of her and the trick she's learned. She is very food motivated so she learns quickly. Amazing!
