Peanut standing

Peanut is a gentle little soul who gets along well with every adult human he meets. His tail is almost always up and wagging!

Peanut has settled into his foster home well. He sleeps through the night, has learned his way around the house and garden, and is housebroken – understanding that potty is done outside.

He is making progress in learning to be respectful of other dogs giving them their space as appropriate and just starting to engage in play with them.

Peanut is a good eater. He eats his meals and licks his bowl clean when he is done. He enjoys a good treat now and then, like strawberries or cucumber slices. Peanut can be a little possessive of his food from the other dogs, something his foster mom is working on but will need reinforcement in his forever home.

Peanut does suffer from separation anxiety. He will howl, cry, bark, and whine when left alone. Peanut has been endowed with a very loud voice, so his separation anxiety is not a quiet event. His foster mom is focused on working with Peanut to help calm his anxiety and teach him that separation is ok. This is training his adoptive parents may need to continue to work on.

Additionally, Peanut has not been trained in basic commands like “sit” and “stay.” This, too, is an area his foster mom is working on, and his adoptive parents will need to continue to reinforce.

Along with this basic training, Peanut still needs more help on crate training. While he will willingly go in, he isn’t necessarily fully crate trained.

Peanut’s foster mom has not observed him with children, so we cannot comment on how he does with children. However, anecdotally we have been told that he has been in homes with older children and seems to do fine. We cannot comment on how he does with younger children.

This gentle, happy soul will be a great addition to a home with fur parents who are home most of the time and would do better in a house where he is the only dog.

He enjoys walks on his leash and enjoys riding in the car. Peanut will wag his tail with joy and share all his love in the right home.

Peanut is being fostered in Maine.
